When I am free, my words just soar across the page. My creativity springs to life, and I am boundless. But school binds me, especially this last week when I had three papers due. When I have to write that which I don’t care about, I shut down.
This week I wrote one poem, Responses To my Grandma’s Chain- Mail, yet it wasn’t enough. I needed to write a review for Modern Lyrics. I didn’t. I needed to work on some short stories. I didn’t. I needed to write, write, write and maybe read a little bit. I didn’t and that upsets me.
That is not to say I wasn’t productive, but all my energies went to school. All my energies tomorrow will go to school so I can finish one more essay due Monday. This upcoming week might just prove to be the most stressful as finals approach.
I cannot wait until summer returns in three weeks. All I will have to worry about is work, and my job doesn’t have any take-home assignments. I plan to spend my free time exploring my ability to write short stories and maybe develop an idea for a novel. I also want to find a community of writers in my town.
So for the next three weeks, I might not post much, but after that I should be a creative whirlwind. I can fill the tensions building in me already, just as they did before spring break.
